The short version

There is no account. Your answers, scores, recordings, essays and settings are stored on your phone.

To mark an answer, Bandwise sends that recording or essay to an AI model through our server. Our server passes it on and does not keep it. Nothing is used to build a profile of you or to show you adverts.

What is sent, and when

Bandwise asks before the first answer is sent, and sends nothing if you say no. You can turn sending off again in Settings, under Privacy.

Only when you ask for an answer to be marked: the recording or essay, the question you answered, and how long you spoke. If you ask to see your answer a band up, its transcript and the question are sent once more. Nothing else about you is included.

The request goes to our server (on Supabase) and from there to an AI model provider through OpenRouter. It carries a random number made when you installed Bandwise, which is not linked to you, so the server can apply a fair daily limit. The server keeps a count of requests per day for that number and for your network address, both stored as one-way codes, to stop abuse. It does not store the recording, the essay or the reply.

The model provider (currently Google, for Gemini) processes the request to return a mark. Requests are routed only to providers that say they do not keep the request or train on it.

The microphone

Bandwise asks for the microphone the first time you tap the mic, and only records while the mic is on screen and live. Leaving the app pauses the recording.

Purchases

Subscriptions are handled by Apple on iPhone and by Google Play on Android. Bandwise learns only whether a subscription is active, never your payment details.

On iPhone, while you subscribe, each marking request also carries the proof of purchase Apple signs for the app. Our server checks Apple’s signature and does not store it; a one-way code of the subscription is counted per day so that one subscription cannot be used on many phones.

Deleting your data

Settings, then "Delete everything on this phone" removes every answer, score, recording, draft and setting. Deleting the app does the same. There is nothing held on our side to delete.

Two small values are kept in the iPhone keychain so that deleting and reinstalling the app does not reset the fair-use limit or the free answer: the random install number, and whether the free answer was used. Neither says anything about you. On Android they are kept in the app’s encrypted storage and go when the app is deleted.

Your answers and recordings are included in your phone’s backup (iCloud or Google), if you use one, so they come back when you restore or move to a new phone. That backup is yours, with Apple or Google; Bandwise cannot see it.

Children

Bandwise is meant for people preparing for the test, usually 16 and over. It does not knowingly collect anything from children.
